With regard to my comments on the Mozart fermatas, Dan pointed out some
interesting and insightful comments. I agree with what he said for the
most part. I applied my performed--music model to those cadenzas as an
exercise because Dan specifically mentioned them specifically with
respect to the model. I did not mean to imply that they were actually
full blown cadenzas, I was just seeing if my model still made sense. Actually
to me it did. Thank god that Dan stated that these were not to be cadenzas
in the truer sense of the word. I have heard people put cadenzas in these
places and I was truly disgusted at the arrogance and lack of sensitivity of
the performer (especially since the players abilities paled in comparison to
his disillusioned confidence). To tell you the truth, I personally don't do
anything on these fermatas except in the second movement. Some might find
that boring but it is the way I like to play it.
