A couple of thoughts about the recent exchange on reeds
"matching" mouthpieces: The main concern is reed strength
relative to the mouthpiece lay (tip opening, length and
curve of lay). In my experience, a 3 1/2 reed, particularly
a Mitchell Lurie (these tend to be on the light side) is a bit
too light for a Vandoren 2RV. However, it has been years
since I played on that setup. As for matching of tip curvatures,
that doesn't seem to be critical, and is easily fixed with some
600 grit sandpaper. (I sometimes have to do this after clipping
a reed, since I can't find a clipper that matches the curve of
any mouthpiece tip very well.)
