Mr. Leeson-- I think that I am set in my ways, like Diana is, but I am
set in an opinion that is closer to yours, as you know. Forgive me for
being a silent bystander--I just read the few letters between you and
Diana about performance practice, and must respond, because I would like
to have the knowledge to give a thoughtful, musical, but fresh and
personal performance of Mozart's clarinet works.

First, I am interested to know what you think Mozart expected from
performers. From what you know of his philosophy, did he want complete
control the performance of his works? How much did he trust to the
performer? I trying to understand what the score meant to him, and what
it didn't mean. It is not as vague as a lead sheet with a melody, I know.
I believe that it isn't as specific as a Stravinsky score, however.
Somewhere in the middle is the truth, and it seems that ground in the
middle is vast---Where do you draw the lines? ----Anthony at FSU
