Mr. Leeson,
I suppose a discussion regarding authenticity of performances would be a great
way to learn a lot...but I must tell you that I am very set in my thinking.
I respect the rights of others to feel what they wish to, but I will always
enjoy a "traditional" performance of a standard rep. piece far more than
a nontraditional one. This is not to say that the nontraditional one has
less merit or musical value, I personally will just not enjoy it nearly as
much.
As for it being a cold winter here in Ithaca, I am going home in a few weeks,
and until then, I am a lot scared about all I have to get done! Our
Wind Ensemble is recording 2 pieces for a new CD, my jury is coming up,
I have a sonata form paper due far too soon, a conducting final, a recital
by my elementary lab school students, and the list goes on and on and on.
(I do a lot here, including my job as a resident assistant)
I enjoy reading the ideas shared on this network, and I like being able to
put my two cents in, for what little it may be worth among the world of
clarinet scholars...I've been playing since 4th grade, nad that is the only
qualification I have to speak on my beloved instrument!
Diana
