John, I do not find any inconsistency in what you say as
contrasted with the 40 or 50 interesting comments about the
generation of a pleasing clarinet sound.

It is true that almost all musical instruments are just
imitators of the human voice and that we must all listen and
all the other good things that you said, but I find it very
commendable that so many people are trying to find mechanical
ways to improve their sound so that the end objective (i.e.,
the duplication of the human voice) can be as approximate
as can be achieved.

Did I misunderstand you? I felt that the nexus of your comments
was to ignore (or reduce interest in) the mechanical aspects of
sound production in favor of a purely aesthetic one. Personally
I don't think it is possible to do the second without the first
but, if I am wrong, it won't be the last time.

In any even, I thank you for sharing that interesting perspective
with us and I hope that you will do more. Your writing style is
very interesting and very informative.
