Tom Ascher: I do not know how much sense I made with the names--but in the
research I have been doing on a biography of the Selmer brothers and the
establishment of the firm both in France and the USA I have come across the
information that Selmer (Paris) did in fact begin as reed and mouthpiece
makers. The mouthpieces that were sold up to that time did not appear to
have any sort of grading or standardization. This was an attempt to put
some guidelines to what was made.
