Just to add to the confusion and to keep Dan Leeson's mind off of additional
Nutcracker's, I discovered over the weekend that my Yamaha clarinet
plays better with a Selmer C* with a softer reed and my Selmer
plays better with a Vandoren B45 and a stiffer reed... I had noticed
that the Yamaha is harder to blow than the Selmer all things being equal,
but that the tone and difficulty of blowing equalizes with the above
adjustments. Which means, that in the future, when I go to upgrade
my clarinet and try out different models, I'll have to bring 3 different
mouthpieces and grades of reed along because clearly, to get the best
out of a clarinet, you have to optimize the particular mouthpiece/reed
combination! Hmmmm. Does this mean that you can make different clarinets
sound the same by adjusting the mouthpiece/reed? It certainly seems to
work that way with my Yamaha/Selmer...
