I wonder why you all play on such heavy reeds. I ones talked this over
with Walter Boeykens (a very good professional Belgian player) and he
told me NEVER to use anything thicker than 3. To phrase him: If you need
more than that, first learn how to play. I only play for app. 5 years now
and am not a professional player and don't have the ambition to become
one but I feel that the urge to play on as thick as possible is bad for
music (very difficult to play staccato in the higher registers) and very
frustrating for people beginning to play. I play on Vandoren V12 or Rico
2 and play a high G without any problem.

My old professor always tells me not to bother so much and to play more.
