In regard to the altisimo (3rd) octave, just how hard of a reed DOES
one need to get decent intonation, etc?! I've just taken the clarinet
up again after many, many years of non-playing. I've been at it only
about 6 months, so I'm still working with a 2-1/2 VanDoren on a Selmer C*
mouthpiece. I know that these are very beginning stages. But, am
curious to know what general experience has been with how hard of a reed
is needed. My personal experience is that I can hit up to a high F with
some difficulty with the 2-1/2. I suspect I'll have to get to #3 reeds
to get decent sound. How hard of reeds to good players generally use?
3? 4? 8? 12?!! :)
