Northwestern U. a few years ago - the Ensemble Vienna-Berlin with Karl

Gunter Hogner, Milan Turkevich and ... I forget who the other two were but they
were the principal flute and oboe of the Vienna Philharmonic (I think).

The music was lightweight stuff, but played by gods. A beautiful blending
of tone colors (in spite of the Viennese-style oboe), dead-perfect
intonation as far as _I_ could tell, technique so solid that you don't
notice it, but best of all an eerie unanimity in phrasing, including rubato
effects that you wouldn't expect without a conductor. But I think it takes
the highest level of musicianship and technical command of the instruments
to make a night like that happen with a woodwind quintet!
