The Senior Soloist concert at Olaf showcases St. Olaf's best musicians
from the senior class, so yes, I would perform a solo with the
orchestra. Oh, the orchestra, that leads me to another point - what
do y'all think of giving the bass clarinet part to Dukas' "Sorceror's
Apprentice" to a contrabassoon, just because it wouldn't be 'fair' to
bring a bass clarinetist along on tour just for that piece? It kinda
ticked me off. However, I'm anticipating playing bass with the
orchestra for Christmas Festival this year, on Daniel Kallman's
"Messiah, Prince of Peace", which leads me to another pont - almost
everyone subscribed to this list will be able to hear the rebroadcast
of this year's St. Olaf Christmas Festival. Watch and listen - I'll
be the tall one in the front row of the Cantorei (white-n-blue robes)
... and maybe even the bass player in the orchestra too!
