The problem is one of air circulation. There are really two problems here...
mold, and reed warpage. Fortunately, one solution will work for both problems.
There are several very inexpensive reed holders on the market which have a
grooved base (I happen to use the one made by Vandoren. I think they go for
approximately $5.00 each; they hold four reeds.) They allow for air circulation
on both the vamp side and the flat side of the reed. Thus, the reed dries
evenly, preventing warpage; the added benefit is that the circulation of air
eliminates mold. One of the few problems in the clarinet world that really does
have an easy solution!
