I use sandpaper to adjust the reeds. I check to see if they are even from side
to side and sand them as needed. I also sand them to get the thickness that I
want. Every reed is very different in how it plays; so I try them first, then
sand them as much as needed until I get them the way they need to be to get th
e desired tone quality. Some reeds need to be sanded near the tips, others hig
her up. Every reed is different in what it needs. If they don't produce the r
ight tone quality, I keep sanding until they are good, or if they are never goo
d, they may be useable for practice. I don't have any specific rules about how
they should be sanded since the reeds vary so much. Each reed requires an ind
ividual treatment before it will be good.
