In answer to the question about E-flat mouthpieces: I do quite
a bit of E-flat playing and use a Clark Fobes mouthpiece on
a Buffet R13. The particular one I use was based on a Riffault
blank. Before I switched to the Fobes, I played for quite a
while on a Hite, which was almost as good and considerably
less expensive. I should say though, that there seem to be
two quite different concepts of E-flat timbre. My choice of
setup tends toward consistency with the larger instruments.
The alternative accentuates the "character" of the E-flat by
utilizing a smaller chamber. I'm very interested to hear
what others' experiences have been.
