Just to clarify things about my recent question...I am only a
sophomore, and I'm looking for grad schools now so I have an idea of
how much I need to raise my GPA, what tests I need to take, etc. I've
received some great info so far. I realize there are some schools out
there that do not allow a student to major on bass clarinet. Check
out the "Bass Clarinet Teaching Survey Report" (something like that)
that was in _The Clarinet_ a year or two ago. I almost laughed out
loud at the reasons some teachers gave for not allowing their students
to major on bass. It seems to me that the low clarinets are at times
underestimated and underappreciated. Throughout high school most of
the parts I had in band were the Joe Boring quarter-notes. Even some
of the pieces we played in Norseman Band last year were dull. Now
that I'm in the St. Olaf Band, I have some *TOUGH* parts - tough, but
extremely fun to play. I will be mentally and physically worn out after some
pieces we play for band. Enuf babble, back to my beloved Bb contra
8-)
