Andrea,
You might be interested in Towson State University here in Baltimore. We
offer a Masters in Music with a major in Bass Clarinet. Our teacher is
Edwin Palanker, the bass clarinetist in the Baltimore Symphony. As far as GPA,
Conditional admission can be granted to students with a GPA of 2.5 and above if
you can achieve a 3.0 average in your first nine hours of study at the graduate
level. As for assistanships, a GPA of 3.0 is required before entering. But
there are other financial supports such as partial tuition waivers, scholarships
, etc. depending on an audition. (Auditions can be made by tape for students
living a long distance from Baltimore)
One of the most attractive aspects of studying here in the Baltimore/Washington
area is the opportunity to interact with many cultural and musical activities
available. We are 1-hours drive to the Kennedy Center in DC and of course
Baltimore has a lot to offer in way of performances and concersts outside the
university.
If interested, write or call Eddie Palanker, Music Department, Towson State
University, Towson, MD 21204, 410-830-2839. Mention that I recommended you
to him.
