Tom, I received the plants today. Before unpacking, spent some time on the
fone w/ Extension Service & Agriculture Dept. trying to make sure there were
no restrictions re introducing Arundo Donax to MD. No definitive answers yet
(from Fed Govt on Fridays?), so will keep them quarrantined till Monday.
Plants look fine, watered them & will heel them into some potting soil Sat.
morning. Who was man who grew them, why did he grow them, and does he know
more about growing reed cane? I'll use school's resources Monday to check on
LSU thesis on growing reed cane. When I taught clarinet at Interlochen 83-85,
I met Pete Fountain there, and he said they were trying to grow this stuff
down there, but haven't heard anything since.
