Arundo Donax is not native to the U.S., but it grows as an escaped
species here in South Carolina and in GA, AL, MS, KT, and VA, so I guess
it is grows in NC also. The biology professor who told me this also told
me that there is a patch of it just a few blocks from my house! The
current range suggests that it might not grow well north of Virginia,
but it have just not arrived yet.

Arundo is used for almost all reed instrument canes, and I guess this
plant, which is somewhat unwelcome, was released by a mad oboe player,
his brain turned to jelly by years of back pressure.

A. Sativa refers to cultivated A. Donax. I don't know how much, if any,
it might differ from A. Donax.

It seems a little cool to be planting right now...
