Thanks for the welcome to KLARINET. I got identical welcome notes from
Jim Fay and Robert Spring, and I'm not quite sure which of you I'm
replying to! I'm 52 years old and have been playing the clarinet in
bands and orchestras off and on since about age 10. Right now, I'm
playing in the Columbia, SC community concert band (1st chair) and a
great German band, DIE LUSTIGEN MUSIKANTEN (1st chair), but what I
really like is the wind quintet that practices at my house once a week.
We work on everything from 15th century dances to Hindemith, and we're
starting to make a little money from local performances.

My mouthpiece is designed by one of my old teachers, Ignatius Gennusa at
Peabody, and it's a little flat across the top, which means that Van
Doren Select reeds have almost exactly the same shape across the top. My
memory may be failing me, but I would swear that this situation did NOT
obtain when I used a Van Doren RV5! Anyhow I remember that a mismatch in
shape at the top can make a big negative effect in tone quality and ease
of speaking (speech?).
I think Iggy sent me the dimensions of the MP but I don't know where
they are. I will look.
