fibrecane was the brand name for a plastic reed with fibres (i believe also syn
thetic) embedded in it, like the fibres in natural cane. i think this project
is about 25 years old. there may be new developments, but i don't know about th
em. most clarinettists seem to use natural cane reeds, with cane coming from f
rance, italy, spain, and us & mexico.
