Reeds must have both good quality cane, a good cut, and suit the mouthpiece & c
larinet, as well as playing style. A hand made reed lasts much longer & often s
uits a players needs much better, but it's time consuming to learn the art & ma
ny pro players don't have the time & adjust commercial reeds to suit. Kalmen Op
perman's Handbook for Making & Adjusting Single Reeds is a good place to start.
