I remember visiting with Joe Allard in January, 1976 in Boston.We were having dinner together at the cafeteria of New England conservatory and one of his students had joined us. We were talking about the attempt at an unfriendly buy-out of Martin Tolchin's company Buffet.

I had just picked up about 100 Buffets on Long Island and we were talking about an Anniversary model they had just given to me. He said how they had invited him out to test them and they had also offered him a free one. He turned it down saying his was fine. They said: "But yours is CRACKED!" He told them, that it had also been pinned. Now that it had cracked it was done cracking and since it was now pinned it was fine and would not crack again.

His student was shocked, but we just laughed and said pinning was fine.
