Decades ago, they used to make for sale a device for doing this. It was a device to make a Bb clarinet play in A.

We display it sometimes in the store along with saxophone mutes, plastic reeds, non-pressure devices for trumpet mthpcs, weighted valve caps and other silly stuff.

It is basically a shoe lace.
