Bill Napier played bass clarinet with Bob Scobey's Frisco Band

The CD "Scobey and Clancey" has him on it.

For those interested in such things....

About 1939 the Yerba Buena Jazz Band started a revival of 2 beat dixieland in San Francisco. Wally Rose also would play ragtime piano in breaks. This would then be heard by many servicemen and women coming and going through the San Francisco Bay area in WWII. This was the start of the revival of both dixieland and ragtime that happened in the '50's.

After the war, in the '50's, Bob Scobey's Frisco Jazz Band played in SF and toured the country with some success. Scobey had been a trumpet player with Lu Watters in the Yerba Buena ensemble and had broken off on his own, playing more 4 beat dixieland and jazz. One of the clarinet players he used was Bill Napier, who was still playing in the SF area a few years ago.
