We still have some clarinet openings in our post-baccalaureate certificate program (1-year) for the 2007-8 year. This program is designed for two types of students who have earned an undergraduate degree.

1) Students who would like to pursue an interest in contemporary music will have an opportunity to apprentice with the faculty new music ensemble (Ruckus), and to produce work in collaboration with faculty and students in our recognized recording program. Composers will have opportunities to have their work read and recorded.

2) Students who would like to prepare for a Fall 2008 entrance to a graduate school are also encouraged to apply. International students who do not have strong enough TOEFL scores (TOEFL is NOT REQUIRED) to enter an American graduate school can study at the English Language Center at UMBC, in a partnership with the Music Department.

Clarinetists enrolled in this program have included a Japanese student who has received 2 prizes in national competitions in Japan, and who has an undergraduate degree from the Kunitachi College of Music, with further study in Paris and Milan; American students who earned a bachelors or masters degree from the Peabody Conservatory; and a European student who has won international competitions. Clarinetists who have completed this program have gone on to graduate school (Eastman), and secured employment as principal clarinet in an American professional orchestra.

If you are interested please email me, or the director of the program (Dr. Kazuko Tanosaki, tanosaki@-----.

Please pass this announcement along to any students who may be interested.

Thank you.
