I hope the trend in "modern" oboes is different from the way the newer
bassoons seem to go. They are certainly louder and maybe have a more stable
intonation, but they don't have the beauty of sound that was inherent in
some vintage Heckels.
I have always liked the tag-line of Porsche's ads. They don't say they are
the best car or the fastest car or whatever... It is simply: "there is No
substitute". That says it pretty succinctly. Play what moves you, not a
trend.
