Dan,
That tube and elastic thing was scary in its instability.
The best stand I have seen in many years is the lovely piece (machined) that
is sold at Forrests Music in Berkeley. It is nicely made, supports well,
folds to a small package, and it's light. Sadly, it in not inexpensive. A
pity that the old modified bass-clarinet stands are no longer manufactured.
I gave my old one to Ray Ojeda years ago.
