From: philfrei@-----.com Subj: [DR-L] The Bell Field, new piece for oboe Date: Mon, 30 Mar 2009 04:15:03 -0400
I finally managed to get a copy of a performance of "The Bell Field"
for oboe and prerecorded electronics online. If you are curious, the
link is as follows: http://www.adonax.com/Audio/TheBellField.mp3
It was recorded live at the March 2008 SFCCO concert at Old First
Church in San Francisco.
The background electronics consists of a slowly phasing pad and what
starts out as little wind-chime-like bells, but gradually grow into
bigger bells, then gongs. I created the various sounds with a Yamaha
DX7, but the prerecording uses the FM7 softsynth. The oboe solo line is
scored, but "ad libitum" with cues to help the pacing stay in synch
with the electronics. It's in A-minor, and is somewhat influenced by
bansuri improvisation. I'm not entirely happy with my playing, but I
think one can get a good idea of what is intended.
I'm curious if this is the sort of thing other oboists would be
interested in performing. Please let me know via my personal email:
phil@-----. I understand it's
rather slow, and on the new-agey side and won't be for all tastes.
Best wishes,
Phil Freihofner
