Personally I believe that the type of sound you produce has less to do with
what type of oboe you are playing on but more what is in the head. The reed
or instrument can make what you hear in your mind's ear more achievable,
but you will generally make the sound you auralise. You may have a liking
to one instrument or another, but its more to do with the mechanism, how
well you can play it in tune, and the responsiveness of the whole thing.

I started off on a Rudel Carte student oboe (open ring system, and yes it
was a thumb-plate) - when I first got my Loree, it felt stuffy and
restricted and I did not feel I was getting any real projection - I nearly
gave it away - yet other musicians I knew (including the esteemed De Vere
Moore), said that they would be hard pressed to tell the difference if
blindfolded unless I played a low C# or D.

My 2 cents worth (excuse the pun)

Many thanks....I was very pleased --which is dangerous--with performing on

My new Howarth XL but it is not a Loree Royal. The oboe is different indeed

In many ways but a fine, meticulously made oboe.Any reactions to the sound

And performance of this oboe would be welcome. (Don't expect to hear the

Tabateau sound--it;'s a different sound)

The feedback might be helpful other double reeders considering trying other

Instruments. It's a traumatic experience changing instruments but since I

Reside and work in a place which is so distant from the Ämerican sound,I

Have possibilities of being more flexible.

.In the past I have tried out and liked very much Rigoutats and Marigauxs

Only to sell them and return to playing on a Loree. A matter of education

And cultural upbringing is involved.

In the future I would still like to try the Incagnol.I oboe but trying out

An instrument and performing in public with it are quite different

Experiences.

Harold

I found this website:

http://www.radiomec.com.br/

With Harold's program under "Sala de Concerto - FM"

To listen to the radio live, click on "Radio On Line"

I chose Real Player as an application.

It wasn't working at first, so I clicked on "Problemas com o stream?"

"Clique aqui"

Then I had to find the Real Player application on my computer

And choose it

And Voilą!, I can listen to MEC FM on my computer now.

Have a good day,

Michel
