As he is a working Union Musician (tympani) I know that Gabe has no interes=
t
in contributing to the degradation of the musical art or business. He has
simply encountered the reality that there are plenty of wind players coming
from our ample band programs, and there are fewer competent string
performers. This makes regional orchestras (usually unpaid) sound very
anemic indeed; OSIRES compensates for the weakness in a way that would
probably be unwieldy for anyone seeking to merely save a buck. There are
fairly expensive speakers (Magnepan), some amps, a special mike for each
performer, and a very complicated system for synthesizing the companion
voices, balancing them, and selectively amping them for the selected
speakers. Until such a system became much more miniaturized and less
expensive, I can't see it as a way to squeeze musicians out of work. That i=
s
too simple - synthesizer!! This thing sounds uncannily real.
