Sorry,
My previous note misspelled Gabe's name; it is correct in the subject line
now. Gabriel Sakakeeny.
If one searches him, he will find Gabe to be quite a guy with an agile mind.
The electronic enrichment process I referenced is called OSIRES, and it is
an incredibly effective way to make a great sound from small string
resources. Each player actually produces the sound of three. You would have
to talk to Gabe to understand how it works. It is far more than simple
amplification, and slightly changes the pitches as do the three strings on a
single piano note. All I know is that to my ear, it is effective. He
probably has some interesting ideas on reinforcing wind instrument sound, as
he has worked with his brother who is a very well respected bassoonist and
teacher.
In any case, Gabe is worth meeting; an engaging fellow with a lot of
enthusiasm for musical ideas, not to mention his excellent conducting and
motivational skills. His orchestra is solid and I understand that they are
financially quite sound. He did a guest concert with our (late) Tassajara
Symphony and it was enthusiastically reviewed. We didn't use the OSIRES
because of some stuffiness in our board of directors, but it was not overly
grand music anyway.
Best,
Herb
