The Mormon Tabernacle choir's repertoire shows that they've been recording classical music since the 20's and heaven forbid some pop tunes of the day!

Thirty years ago, I talked to composers at BYU.
(Even Mormons refer to living in Utah as being
behind the "Zion Curtain".) Many Mormons
thought it was Sacrilegious to Even Consider using
Post-1860's Tonal Harmony! I had Mormons tell
me it was "evil" to play Bach, and "immoral" to
want to be a composer.
