Well, don't beat around the bush. What do you REALLY think about it??
BTW, I'm not at all surprised at your assessment of the reed. Synthetic
clarinet and saxophone reeds have progressed to the point that they can
be used, by some people, in certain circumstances, although most players
will say that these reeds are still not as satisfying to play as a good
cane reed. With a great deal of alteration, synthetic bassoon reeds can
produce a bassoon-like sound, as shown by Professor Artemus Edwards and
a few others. But, I have never seen or heard a synthetic oboe reed
that didn't sound more like a duck (and a sick one at that) than an
oboe.
I guess we can keep hoping for something that will make it possible for
us to no longer be slaves to an organic material.
