In North Carolina, woodwind players having cases onstage is more or less the
norm.

I remember asking a direct question to the person handling personnel for a
gig involving a prominent pop star (where we'd been asked to not have cases
on stage) what she was planning on doing with her case. She replied "I'm a
wind player. Of course it's going to be beside me."

I'm glad things haven't been as bad in this locality.
