To clear the record, I actually didn't play any of Matt's compositions
at my audition. :) I was going to, but decided against it at the last
minute; instead, I played Jacob ter Veldhuis' "The Garden of Love," for
oboe and boombox, which I think took the audition panel by surprise.
(And I actually wasn't turned down - I got in!)
I did my masters solo recital yesterday, and I performed another one of
Matt's pieces - "Intricate Simplicity." That one uses a Line 6, so you
basically loop yourself playing, and then do improv and other things
over top of the loops. "Sonic Bloom" is another one of his (did that
in my senior recital!) that uses the Line 6.
I've studied with Matt for 6 years, and has been an amazing teacher for
me! If anyone out there is looking at colleges, take a look at
Rutgers. I'm graduating in May, so there's a shortage of grad
students...and Matt is great. When I first started my bachelors
degree, I NEVER thought that I would be playing things with electronics
and boomboxes; I was a strictly Bach-Mozart-Vivaldi girl. Now I feel
comfortable standing on stage in a cowboy hat and playing Dueling
Banjos (Mike was a witness to that yesterday..)!
One last thing - the youtube piece is called "Oh Boy!" :)
