Dear Herb
It resembles a pencil which small wax which oozes out gradually .... uses
the idea of sealing the whole reeds from top to the string(a contrast to the
reach of fishskin)of the tube ....tried another approach today at orch
rehearsal of Mend. 5th Symphony--sealing an older reed from the fishskin
upward and it worked indeed. My suggestion now to inventor Crispin is that he
make the device in form of a pencil which can hook onto our shirt pockets
for the men and to wherever for the gals.
We could then try sealing our reeds with this geek during rehearsal
wherever the air is oozing out. I liken it to sealing a leaky tire-tyre(UK)
Suddenly I find that it~s not necessarily that I have been cutting and
scraping reeds incorrectly but they were not completely sealed. Hope that
enough people--including bassoons(do bassoon reeds leak:)--try it to send on
suggestions to composer.
Rgds,
