Let me add my 2 cents to this learned discussion. Felix Mendelssohn,
despite the fact that he was often referred to as "the Jew" by Wagner
and other anti-Semites of the day, was I believe a Lutheran - or at
least a Christian of some stripe or other - and not Jewish.
