I would suggest you have a couple nice soft reeds to help ease the period
when you start back practicing again, too. I hate having a layoff and then
come back to getting in shape, and all my reeds feel too hard! I start
thinking, "Gosh, who replaced all my nice reeds with these two-by=fours!!",
and am tempted to start whittling when what I really need to do is be
patient and do the "lip-ups".
I think you're on the right track with your lip-ups, Phil. Maybe you could
also just hold a reed in addition to puckering; just don't blow any air
through it.
