Subj: [DR-L] March update on Bill Douglas FL/BSN/PIANO commission project
Date: Fri, 14 Mar 2008 13:35:25 -0400

Dear Colleagues,

The Bill Douglas flute/bassoon/piano commission project is in full =20
swing. Bill has completed 3 movements and expects to have the =20
project done by May 1, at the earliest. We have a number of groups =20
and individuals from around the U.S. and Canada signed on. However, =20
we're still in need of additional commissioners to meet Bill's =20
commission fee and copying costs.

If you or your group are interested, please let me know and I'll add =20
you to the list. If you aren't interested but still know someone who =20=

might be, I'd certainly appreciate it if you could forward this =20
message to as many players as possible. Thanks again for reading =20
this! I'll put the details of the commission below.

____________________

Bill Douglas is being commissioned to write a flute, bassoon, and =20
piano trio. The work will have 4-5 movements, approximately 15 =20
minutes in duration. The flavor of the work will be in his usual =20
style of long, lyrical, singing lines influenced by Bach, lyrical =20
jazz, African, Afro-Cuban, Renaissance music, etc.

In the past few years, Bill has been commissioned to write several =20
major works for woodwinds including the Partita for Bassoon and =20
Piano, Lyric Suite for Contrabassoon and Piano, Suite Cantando for =20
Clarinet, Bassoon, and Piano, Suite Cantabile for Woodwind Quintet, =20
Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano, Celebration V for Bassoon and
Strings, Songs and Dances for Oboe and Strings, and Celebration IV =20
for Flute and Piano. These have been performed many times around the =20
world.

This is your chance to be part of the creation of a major new =20
woodwind trio and be recognized in the score for your contribution.

Bill and I have suggested a $100 fee to join this project. All =20
participants would be listed on the title page as contributors, and =20
groups would be listed by group name and personnel; commissioners =20
will receive a set of parts and score and a recording of the piece =20
with sampled instruments. All participants would have a one-year =20
exclusivity agreement on performances before the piece is made =20
available for the general public.

For more information on Bill and his music, please visit his website:

If you are unfamiliar with Bill=92s music, please email him at =20
<billdouglas@-----.net>, and he will send you a sampler CD of =20
movements from recent works for winds.
