I was told to go to a special luggage counter in an airport once to pick up my skiing equipment. Well, that was a contrabassoon...
another story: a couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by a man who managed the estate of his father-in-law who had recently passed away. Among the things were a bassoon that he wanted me to take a look at and estimate a value - and another thing that he thought was a kind of wind instrument, but wasn't really sure. That was a clarinet!! First time I meet someone who knows what a bassoon is, but NOT what a clarinet is.

It gets worse - the cabin crew took the bassoon/oboe and stowed it in the
coat closet in the front of the plane. As we arrived, the purser came
back and announced that I could pick up my electric guitar on the way out.
