From: "HAROLD" <harold@-----.br> Subj: [DR-L] An oboe is not a bassoon! Date: Sun, 09 Mar 2008 19:05:09 -0400
Dear List(s):
I want to scream, open the windows and yell to all the neighbors:an oboe is
NOT a bassoon and vice versa!
Instead I write to you, dear Lists.
As noted in prior posts,I am organizing ,arranging, orchestrating, researching
and performing(beginning next week) music from the period of 1808 to
celebrate in Brazil, the 200th anniversary of the Portuguese Royal Family
arriving in Rio de Janeiro. (They were fleeing Napoleon--never learned that
back in public school in the old country called the uSA).Included in my
repertoire for flute oboe and bassoon (cello) ,oboe and piano, oboe, voice and
piano are the works of S. Neukomm,an Austrian who studied with Haydn and
took a sailboat to Rio from 1816 to 1822.
In any case, today the nation's most revered magazine published a short
report on my activities with a pic of Noel Devos, bassoonist only my name was
substituted for the French bassoonist and his bassoon identified as an oboe.
This is the second time this has happened in three years.
Moral of the story :correct errors in the media immediately otherwise they
go into the archives and perpetuate.
A fine Sunday to oboebassoonists.
Rgds,
harold emert
