"Let me tell you a story. . ." The Atlanta Baroque Orchestra introduces to=
=20
Atlanta audiences program music by a trio of Italian composers, including a=
=20
concerto depicting Christmas by Sammartini, a concerto by Locatelli=20
representing the weeping of Ariadne (spurned by her lover Theseus) and culm=
inating in=20
Geminiani's music for ballet, The Enchanted Forest. "Program Music" is=20
designed to paint a picture, tell a story or depict an idea which means tha=
t this=20
concert will feature works that are both colorful and evocative. Written b=
y=20
three of the "superstars" of the Baroque who are not heard in Atlanta on a=20
regular basis, audiences have a rare opportunity to learn why these=20
contemporaries of Bach, Handel and Vivaldi were so well known and admired i=
n their time=20
and remain favorites of early music lovers today.
Has it really been ten years and fifty or more concerts? Indeed it has! =20
Since its first public concert in January 1998, the group has grown from a=20=
band=20
of peripatetic period-instrument instrumentalists to an established and=20
highly professional ensemble of colleagues who have developed a collective=20
stylistic conception through regular performance of Baroque and Classical=20
masterworks on instruments in use at the time that the works were performed=
. Please=20
join Artistic Director, John Hsu and the ABO musicians for this historic=20
performance!
"The Enchanted Forest" is made possible in part through a $5,000 gift by=20
Lois Z. Pyle.
