I call them micrometers because that's how they are described in the
all the many catalogs that I reviewed. Then, everyone else calls them
micrometers. They also measure in tiny fractions of a millimeter -
hence "micro/meter" or micrometer.
As far as I can tell, "dial indicator" is one type of micrometer out
of several. It implies that it has a dial which reads out the
measurement. So I think I did use the correct terminology and that
your implication I used the wrong name is not right. If I am wrong
about this, I will of course be willing to be corrected.
