Hi Phil,
Why not a violin? Think about it. "I" would place the violin among the
more "feminine" instruments in the orchestra, hardly suitable for a macho man to
"perform." I doubt the Bud Light crowd could relate to a violin. The oboe
has the fantasy "masculine" design (I think you catch my drift...). ;-)

Well, I thought the fingerings looked real, even if they didn't match
the music. For example, I'm pretty sure the only times he took off the
left hand fingers, the right hand was either entirely clear or holding
the f# key, the only legitimate choices. Maybe I didn't look close
enough. Most actors, though, are randomly flailing away with both hands
at the same time.
Another point, though, bears remarking. Why on earth did someone in NFL
Marketing even come up with this story, and why the oboe? It seems to
me, if this ad had been made not too long ago, the instrument of choice
would have been the violin.
Don't get me wrong, I think this is pretty great publicity for the
oboe. It's just taking me by surprise. Has the oboe become "cool"
somehow? When did that happen, and why? I mean...with the general
public, now. I'VE known it was cool for decades, as do most on the list.
