That is a beautiful device. I once had a Pfeifer double, and it too was
nice. That price would buy two Rieger machines, and I have never found a
double to produce anything better than a single and there is a lot more to
adjust (KIS). Jim was a fine machinist and the thing is probably a pleasure
to use, but that much money buys a lot of gouged cane. Garfield gets by wit=
h
a Pfeifer single, as does Popkin (his machine is an upgrade of a Pfeifer -
they were neighbors). Only a little more money will buy a Herzberg system
including the best shaper available which is indexed to the profiler.
