Dear reeders of all "species",
I may have posted about this previously; I'm running sort of an experiment
with the Rico Reed Vitalizer pouch (available from Woodwind Brasswind). I
always have some problems with reeds warping and leaking, and just closing
up during the very dry months of the winter heating season. I've had the
pouch for about one week now, and am pleased with the results so far.
I'm using the 84% packet (the highest humidification). It will supposedly
keep reeds at an optimum moisture, "ready to play". I find I still need to
soak for 1 or 2 minutes, but my reeds seem to be more responsive than when I
was keeping them in my usual (cigarette type) case.
I have to use a La Voz oboe case to protect the reeds and to allow air flow,
which isn't a major obstacle (except that I need more of them).
I'll report back in another 2 wks or so to let you know if I'm still getting
good results.
Best reeds to everyone,
Miriam
