Subj: Re: [DR-L] Lip-ups for flat high notes or weak embouchure

Shawn,

I have the same problem but with 2nd F# and G!! They come out flat
unless I blow REALLY hard but then the notes would be too loud. The
problem hasn't been there for a while. I just thought it was my oboe.
And I did change reeds but same results.

I recently been playing on a temp oboe since mine is still in service
and the same problem happened a few times. Now I believe the problem
is me not the oboe nor the reeds. So I started changing my embouchure
which is what I wanna ask you guys about.

How round my lips must be? I do the "old grand mother" kiss then move
my lips inside. Playing lower notes is fine but once I get higher it
is REALLY hard to keep the reeds in place and the notes are all
flat!!! Moreover, my corner muscles get tired right away thus I take
in a bit more reed and flatten my round embouchure a bit.

I also noticed that muffling up the reed tip a tiny bit makes the
sound warmer. Is that ok? If I dont I sound bright and loud!!!

I wish if someone out there would take a picture of the "correct"
embouchure and send it or post it somewhere. :)

Sameer
