Pat,
My understanding is that the slashes on the note flag tell you the value of
the notes to be played (in this case it sounds like they should be 32nd
notes) and the note head tells you how long to "carry on" like that (3
beats).
....Perhaps the 3 longest beats of your life!!!!!
I could be wrong, but that's what I understand the rule to be.
