I agree that this is far from terrible tone. In fact, the tone is about the
last thing I would single out, especially as she gets down into the lower
range, where the instrument is richer. It sounds actually quite nice.
What I hear are some intonation difficulties, and that she is controlling
her tone mostly from her lips (aka "biting"), rather than supporting it
with
her air and letting it flow from deeper down. I would suggest the
possibility
that she could benefit from playing on a reed which is more resistant
and/or
emphasizes the lower partials more. In my experience, too easy a reed will
encourage playing from the lips, as well as unstable intonation. What sort
of
reed is she playing? What instrument?
It seems to me that another issue is where this piece dwells in its opening
bars -- on B or C or somewhere thereabouts, if my ears are correct. These
are
notoriously unstable notes on the oboe. It takes quite a while (again, in
my
experience) to get the B and C to line up with the rest of the scale.
