Dear Lists:
Next year Brazil commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Portuguese Royal
family fleeing the Napoleonic wars and departing Lisbon for Rio de
Janeiro, where an two Emperors ruled until a Republic was declared in the
late 19th century.
There will be musical celebrations as well in 2008 and already I have
discovered a work for oboe by a composer of German heritage who studied with
Haydn and settled here for a brief while.Who played the oboe is another
question ?Perhaps a band or orchestra accompanying the Royal family?
I've also heard from a few sources that Reicha,a native Czech who became a
naturalized French citizen, spent some time in the tropics along with the
famous painter Debret and others accompanying the Royal court.
Googling in on the famous composer of ww quintets,I read nothing about his
supposed period in Brazil.
Anyone have any clues to this mystery?

Best,

Harold Emert
Rio-Brazil
